And to ensure that every work shall be properly investigated and all relevant data collected and correlated before finalizing the design and estimate for the work.

To ensure that the financial implication of each proposal is looked into and the most economical one is finally recommended without sacrificing the technical feasibility.
To ensure that the benchmarks and survey reference points shall be carefully selected and properly established so that there is no likelihood of these being missed when the work is taken up for execution and that, the benchmarks are connected to the nearest permanent Mean Sea Level (M. S. L.) Bench Mark.
Vetting of investigation reports submitted by field officers and to scrutinize whether it is in accordance with the provisions contained in the relevant codes and practices
Vetting of Prefeasibility/ Feasibility Report/DPR of Water resources schemes, submitted by subordinate offices before submission to Government
